PADDLERS ARE WANTED FOR FIRST OPEN PADDLING EVENT ON THE HOCKANUM RIVER


The HOCKANUM RIVER WATERSHED ASSOCIATION is promoting the First Annual CT. Water Trails Day on Saturday, June 14, 2008 and we have had our Mayor Spadaccini support that date here in Manchester. We are scheduling 2 paddling events on the river...

First, starts in Ellington at Lower Butcher Road at the Hockanum River at 10 AM on that Saturday, 6/14, paddling the river through the Ellington Marsh and taking out at the Vernon Sewer Plant, about a 1 hour paddle. Entrants need to bring their own drinks, kayaks, paddles and PFDs. Jeff Feldmann will be leader. Please meet at Lower Butcher Road.

Second, we are also paddling from The Eighth District Park on the Hockanum River off Fleming Road, off Hilliard Street, Manchester that same date at 1 PM, down stream for 1 hour and taking out at McDonalds, Burnside Avenue, East Hartford, after traversing the Laurel Marsh. Bring drinks, kayaks, paddles and PFDs required. Frank Belknap will be leader. Heavy rain will cancel to next year. Please meet at end of Fleming Road at River.
